How WPM is measured
Typing speed counts every five correct characters (including spaces) as one “word”, divided by the minutes you typed. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were right the first time — fixing a mistake with backspace still counts it as an error.
How fast is fast?
| Under 30 WPM | Beginner or hunt-and-peck |
| 35–45 WPM | Typical adult |
| 50–70 WPM | Above average; many office jobs ask for 40+ |
| 80+ WPM | Fast, usually touch typists |
